Recently leaked images and videos of the Joy-Con controllers for the Switch 2 have provided significant insights into the upcoming Nintendo console.
The presence of controllers that attach securely suggests that the Switch 2 will retain a design similar to the original Switch. However, with the controllers appearing longer and bulkier, it is likely that the new console will have a larger overall size.
It’s no surprise that Nintendo is continuing with the mobile hybrid console format, given its past success. However, the new controllers feature some intriguing additions that warrant attention. With more than just a leaked logo to analyze, we now have details such as an optical sensor and an entirely new locking mechanism. Here’s a breakdown of what we’ve learned so far.
Joy-Con Leaks Reveal Features of Nintendo Switch 2
The Joy-Con leaks originated from a forum post on Baidu Tieba, a long-standing platform in China with over 20 years of history. The leaked images display the side and back of the controller, offering a glimpse of the front as well.
Although the leaks already appeared authentic, sharp-eyed users spotted a serial number on the product, which could help identify the leaker. This serial number also serves as evidence that the leaks are genuine.
While searching the serial number doesn’t reveal the exact product, it does generate a distinct response compared to entering a random number. This suggests that the controller’s serial number is linked to a legitimate product, even if its full details remain undisclosed.
These new Joy-Cons are significantly more robust than their predecessors. Instead of sliding into the console like the original Switch, they seem to insert directly, with a button beneath the shoulder button likely serving as the release mechanism.
Additionally, the internal buttons are noticeably larger, making single Joy-Con play more comfortable.
Another major change is the inclusion of an optical sensor on the side of the controller, though its specific function remains unclear.
Although it’s unfortunate that the front of the Joy-Con isn’t visible in the leaked photos, it’s evident that the Switch 2’s Joy-Cons will offer significantly more features than those of the original console.
